Volunteer
Would you like to volunteer with Sunshine Cat Rescue?
If you aren’t already one of our valued volunteers, have you ever considered helping us out?
We need all sorts of people with all sorts of talents. Whatever your skill, we can probably find something for you to do to help the cats and kittens of West Oxfordshire in need of care.
Could you be a home visitor? Can you spare time to help with rehoming? We need reliable caring people to be home visitors.
We hold fundraising events throughout the year at various locations and always need plenty of willing hands with these – whether you can assist with setting up or clearing up – or can just stay for a few hours and enjoy meeting people and chatting. Book sales, boot sales, jumble sales, tombolas, raffles, Christmas Fayres – we do us much as we can. And of course – you can always help with a collection tin!
Any time that you can give to help Sunshine Cat Rescue is immensely valuable to us – you decide how much or how little.
"I love volunteering with SCR because in such a small organisation, I can see the difference I make - to both cats and humans. I like being the link that places cats into homes where they will be much loved. Sam N"
If you don't live in Oxfordshire you may still be able to help! If you have skills that can be applied remotely, such as; marketing, social media etc, please get in touch via the APPLY TO VOLUNTEER button below.

Could you be a fosterer?
Do you have a spare room you could dedicate to the care of a cat or kitten in need? We need reliable, caring and patient people to be fosterers.
Fostering is rewarding and a crucial part of Sunshine Cat Rescue.
Read what one of our fosterers has to say about their experience...
"I started fostering after I had completed and recovered from chemo and radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer in 2023. I felt so helpless through so much of my treatment and fostering was one of the best things I have done to help my recovery and mental health. Being able to provide a loving and safe temporary home for any cat or kittens who need it has given me a real sense of purpose. Yes, I miss them when they leave for their forever homes, but getting updates on how they are settling in to their new homes and pictures of them loving life is wonderful. Becs H"

Volunteer Role Spotlight
What is involved in being a Home Visitor?
Sam, one of our valued volunteers, explains what it is like being a Home Visitor and what is involved in her role:
"I’ve been a Home Visitor for 2+ years now - and love it. I wanted to support SCR in some way, but active fundraising isn’t my thing, and my partner refused to let me have any direct contact with the cats (for fear I’d start bringing them all home!).
As a Home Visitor, I am responsible for making sure that adopters have thought through the process of taking on a cat, and that it’s the right home for the kitty concerned (some of whom have particular needs/requirements). It can feel a little nosey/intrusive at times - you do have to be comfortable dealing with members of the public, and going into their homes. The way I look at it - we are taking donations from the public and homing vulnerable animals. We want to be sure we are doing the best for our cats, and finding the right new homes for them. The last thing we want is for it not to work out - that’s not good for anyone. A few simple questions up front can prevent that.
Six months after the cat is placed with the adopter, I go back to check that all is well - neutering has been done, vaccinations up-to-date, and no questions or concerns. It’s also my opportunity to meet the lucky cat(s)!
Driving away from a family knowing that you have just found an amazing home for a cat in need of one, is simply the best feeling.
Each visit takes around 45 mins (plus travel time) - on average I estimate I spend a couple of hours every fortnight. I was given full training and ongoing support.
